Why Maymont Is a Favorite Richmond Photo Location

Ask any Richmond photographer what one of their top locations for photos in Richmond VA is, and I am sure they will say, “Maymont Gardens!”

Maymont offers SUCH a wonderful variety of areas to take photos. Whether you are taking family portraits, grad photos, or engagement sessions… You just can’t go wrong! The greenery, stone structures, flowers, ponds, beautiful archways… phew! From nature to architecture, they really have it all!

Kelsey and Bryan’s Maymont Engagement Session

Kelsey and Bryan are one of my 2025 couples who decided to include some Maymont magic in their engagement session this summer. The gardens hold a special place in their hearts because their relationship became official at this very place, many moons ago! After spending time dating, Bryan asked Kelsey to be his girlfriend while sitting on a bench at a Maymont gazebo. However, unknowingly to him, while making this request, he sat stuck in some gum! We found the spot — the gum stain even remains on the bench to this day. When telling me this story during our session, Kelsey made the quip, “And he’s been stuck to me ever since!”

Looking Ahead to Their May Wedding

My time with these two was truly a delight. I loved seeing the comfort and ease of a relationship that has been together long enough to weather storms and continue pressing in together. Kelsey & Bryan were cool, calm, and collected — ready to do anything and everything I prompted them in! This Richmond photographer couldn’t be more honored to be capturing their day next May!
